Kyoto Travel Diary

Kyoto was a very beautiful, low-key area. We stayed at a quieter, more out of the way part of Kyoto called Keage. Unfortunately, there were almost no available hotels in Kyoto so we only stayed there for one day. Again, we didn't visit a lot of places. There was only one place in my list, which was Fushimi-Inari Taisha, which is, if you follow me on Instagram, is that orange shrine on the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha". Unfortunately, we got there quite late in the day, so it was covered in tourists and you couldn't really get any decent shots of the actual walkway (these photos were taken outside). Not at all the quiet sanctuary I thought it would be.

The other area we visited was the touristy, yet colourful Gion. You can see so many girls walking around in kimonos, beautiful temples and a long walkway called the "party area" with most of the tea shops and bars, with actual Geishas. I only actually saw one actual geisha during the trip, and good thing the camera was ready so I got one great shot of her. After we visited the temple, we just walked along the backroads way into the night. The crowd thinned up there, and the establishment looked more traditional, like a Japanese postcard. We followed another group of tourists into a thin alley, which was actually dotted with high-end restaurants that do not even bother to promote themselves. Seriously, the only way you'll know it's a restaurant and not some random house is the presence of a small sign outside. Too easy to miss. We did find one that did not require a month-long waiting time, Shuhaku, and we proceeded to have the most expensive yet delicious meal of my life to that point. Hahaha, but I was filled. And the traditional Japanese food served to us was so super fresh and full of healthy veggies and fresh fish so you don't really get that bloated.

Outfit-wise, I went with my jumpsuit from H&M, my denim jacket and my super comfy Stan Smiths. Most of my outfits in Japan consisted of denim in some way or another. I got so many compliments on this cool jumpsuit, which was so cool!

Anyways, till next time darlings!
