Cannot Publish a Sports Story: Source Analysis Is Empty

How many words can a sports news story have if there is no match to tell? I received a request to write a pure Vietnamese sports article of 5,213 words. The attached document looked more like a medical check-up report than a news brief: eight analysis dimensions, each concluding with the same three words "N/A – insufficient information". There was no fight, no fighter, no organization, no numbers. Even the topic label "martial_arts" was too broad to anchor any specific story. A football match can end 0–0 and still be full of drama. But an analysis with no data is just a blank sheet of paper. Reading carefully, this is clearly an error output: no background event, no entities, no information points to verify. There are no elements to build a verifiable sports narrative. If I tried to fill 5,213 words in this state, I would have to invent matches, names, and statistics. That would turn me into someone who counts money and then prints his own. The outlet I work for has no room for that kind of fake analysis. Readers need information, not sentences inflated by imagination. Some will say: "If there is no news, write commentary." That sounds reasonable, but commentary without sources is only noise. A bad writer uses confidence to hide the absence of facts. I learned that lesson in an empty stadium, where there was no crowd noise to hide tactical gaps. A data void is like an empty stadium: it exposes the truth that we are standing in front of something that cannot be analyzed. So I stop here, at the very moment when it would be easiest to produce a 5,213-word article built from nothing. Refusing to write when no truth exists is also an editorial decision. When the real source is provided, I will be ready to pick up the microphone and tell the story with data, match rhythm, and the silences around the pitch.
